julie reprezentują nowe, młode pokolenie shoegaze’u, balansujące pomiędzy przystępnością i agresją, nieograniczonym eksplorowaniem granic możliwości instrumentów, brzmieniem jednocześnie eterycznym i intymnym. Zespół założony został przez licealnych przyjaciół. Gdy pod koniec 2019 roku nagrali debiutancki singiel “flutter.” liczyli na 1000 odtworzeń, obecnie piosenka ma na liczniku już ponad 37 milionów. Ich popularność rosła podczas pandemicznych lockdownów i zdali sobie z niej sprawę dopiero ponad rok później, gdy tłumy przybyły na ich koncert w galerii sztuki na obrzeżach Los Angeles. Niedługo po tym wyruszyli w wyprzedaną trasę po USA, a teraz szykują się na podbój Europy ze świeżo wydanym debiutanckim albumem “my anti-aircraft friend”. The genesis of julie goes back a few years, to the late ‘10s, when high school friends decided to form a band. Much has been made of the new wave of shoegaze, and what the younger generation might seek in the work of their forebears: the balance of accessibility and aggression, limitless exploration of an instrument’s boundaries, a sound that is both ethereal and intimate. Just before lockdown hit, the band completed recording a debut single called “flutter.”, hoping for a thousand listens. Instead, the song soon racked up over 37 millions of streams. A whirlwind developed around julie, which they realized only after their packed post-pandemic show in an LA art gallery, which was just the first taste of a sold-out American tour. Now they’re embarking on their European tour, freshly after releasing their long-awaited debut album “my anti-aircraft friend”. The record is a bold leap, both showcasing a louder, more assured band, while also attaining a core sound the band had been chasing all along.
